There was in Fairfax County, Virginia. According to Stacy Langton, mother of students of the school district. She had heard from other parents of these books and investigated herself. Langton found two books, "Lawn Boy" by Jonathan Evison and "Gender Queer: A Memoir" by Maia Kobabe. According to Langston, "Both of these books include pedophilia. Sex between men and boys." What did this mom do about this? She went to a school board meeting.
Despite the board trying to silence her by shouting over her and one member even saying, "There are children in the audience here," Langton was not to be silenced. She demanded her time. The outcome of this meeting? The other parents attending the meeting stood up and demanded the school board members, "Go to jail!' The board has since removed the books from the library, pending a review of the material.
Maybe its time we all go check out what books are permitted in our local school libraries. Some good questions to ask at a school board meeting are who determines what books are ordered and more importantly how are these books determined to be appropriate or inappropriate. According to Langton, the books she discovered detailed sexual encounters between a man and a fourth grade boy. The other book contained illustrations of encounters between a man and a boy.
My children are adults with children of their own. Maybe yours are as well. And, maybe they would be okay with this material. I hope they wouldn't. Bottom line is our tax dollars still fund these schools. Guess it might be about time to attend a school board meeting myself.

On Tuesday, a judge denied Loudoun County school board member Beth Barts’ motion to dismiss the case and also removed Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj from the case. Controversial things need to be talked about and dealt with accordingly. We've got to think of the proverbial ostrich in the sand. Keep hiding it in the dirt, it's going to grow. If we face it head on, and take a scythe to it, it'll eventually die.
On the flip side of this, we have another issue. Ignorance. If we hide too much darkness from our kids, they’ll be left susceptible to the things we’re trying to protect them from. None that I know of ever experienced a nuclear blast. We’re trained in the event of one but never have been through one, we will never know what it feels like.
Now having said that, there’s questions that came from my own kids. Especially when we had the 40 days for life movement at our Catholic Church. At eight years old we had our Daughter ask if she needed an abortion. That opened up a can of worms my wife and I weren’t ready for. So,…
